National Recognition and Credit Transfer

Qantm College recognises AQF qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by any other Registered Training Organisation in Australia. Students may request total credit for a whole unit or course/program based on study in an identical unit or course/program at another institution. Suitable documentation such as a Statement of Attainment must be provided when applying for credit transfer.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

RPL recognises that people who already have the knowledge and skills required for competency in various units or modules of an accredited training course should not be required to re-learn what they already know.

The main focus of RPL is on the performance criteria in the various units of the course, not how, when or where the learning occurred. Hence there is no distinction between formal and informal learning. The process of RPL takes into account that various competencies can be acquired through:

  • education
  • previous qualification
  • work experience
  • life experience.

To Apply for RPL

  • You must be enrolled in, and have paid all RPL fees for the units being applied for. RPL fees are calculated at 50% of normal enrolment fees.
  • Site visits may incur additional fees.
  • You will need to apply by completing an Application for Recognition of Prior Learning form (pdf) and submitting with accompanying evidence.
  • You must show evidence that you have achieved all the required competencies for any units applied for.

Unit outlines that list all the competencies for each unit are available from this site (in pdf format). These lists are also available from The National Training Authority website http://www.ntis.gov.au/

Assessing the RPL Application

  • You will be able to negotiate the method of assessment.
  • You may be requested to supply further information.
  • A Senior Instructor in conjunction with a qualified Instructor will approve or not approve the application. An interview with the student may be requested where further evidence is required.
  • The key principles of assessment - validity, reliability, fairness and flexibility - shall be observed.
  • You will be advised of the result of the assessment in writing and the relevant certification will be issued to you.
  • If the recognition is not granted, you will be advised of the review process.

Appeals

Any appeals based on the outcome of Recognition of Prior Learning or Credit Transfer must be made according to the QANTM College Policy.
